Dear reader,
Every story begins with childhood.
Long before we worried about calendars, deadlines, and growing up, there were afternoons spend chasing laughter, inventing adventures, and believing that the simplest games held entire worlds inside them. We never questioned whether magic was real. We simply made room for it. Perhaps that's while childhood stays with us. Not because we remember every game we played, but because we remember how it felt.
This is one of those stories. It is the story of the very first chapter in my Child's Game series. A collection of fantasy portraits inspired by the games that colored our childhoods. And like many good beginnings, this one started with something wonderfully simple. A handful of cherries.
The Beginning of a New Adventure
When I dreamed up the Child's Game series, I didn't want to recreate board games or toys exactly as we remembered them. I wanted to capture something much harder to describe. The feeling. The excitement of opening a game box for the first time. The anticipation before the first move. The imagination that transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary adventures. Those are the memories that stay with us.
This cherry-inspired session became the perfect first chapter because it embodies joy. Bright reds, playful details, and vibrant colors came together to create something whimsical. Something that felt as though it had wandered straight from the pages of an illustrated storybook.
Turning Imagination Into Reality
Every fantasy session begins the same way. With a conversation. Sometimes it's about a favorite book. Sometimes it's inspired by a movie. Other times it's simply an emotion someone wants to capture. This time, the inspiration came from childhood itself.
As ideas filled and mood boards, the vision slowly took shape. Rich cherry tones would become the heartbeat of the session. Every detail would remind us that imagination doesn't disappear simply because we grow older. It only waits for an invitation.
A World Painted in Reds and Greens
When the day of the session arrived, it felt like stepping into a world where summer never ended. The bright cherries became more than props. They became symbols of sweetness. Of curiosity. Of innocence. Every pose was filled with movement rather than perfection. There was no expectation to stand perfectly still or force a smile.
Instead, the session became an experience of laughter, exploration, and simply enjoying the moment. Those are often the photographs that become people's favorites. Not because they're flawless. Because they're real.
More Than a Creative Photoshoot
People often ask me why I love fantasy photography. It's because fantasy gives us permission. Permission to dream. Permission to wonder. Permission to become someone -- or perhaps rediscover someone we thought we'd left behind years ago. As a fantasy photographer in Kansas City, I don't believe portraits should only document what someone looks like. I believe they should preserve who they are.
Creative portrait photography becomes meaningful when it tells a story that couldn't belong to anyone else. That's what this session became. Not a collection of cherry-themed photographs. A celebration of wonder.
The Magic Hidden in the Details
Some of my favorite moments during a session happen quietly. Adjusting a piece of fabric until it catches the breeze just right. Watching sunlight peek through the trees. Finding the perfect angle where every color seems to come alive. Those little details often go unnoticed by everyone except the photographer.
Together, details become the invisible threads holding a story together. Each image is individually edited by hand because every photograph deserves the same level of care as the moment that created it. No two stories are identical. Their photographs shouldn't be either.
The First Page of Many
Beginning a new series is always exciting. There's something special about knowing this session will always be remembered as where the journey began. The Child's Game Series isn't about nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. It's about reminding ourselves that creativity, curiosity, and imagination don't belong exclusively to children.
These belong to anyone willing to make space for themselves again. Each future chapter will explore another game. Another memory. Another opportunity to transform something familiar into something magical. And this little cherry story will always be the place where is all started.
Perhaps You've Been Waiting for Your Own Story
You don't need to have an elaborate costume. You don't need modeling experience. You don't even need to know exactly what your story looks like yet. Sometimes all you need is a tiny spark of an idea. Together, we'll build the rest.
Whether your inspiration comes from childhood memories, fantasy novels, fairy tales, or dreams you've carried for years, your session will be created around you. Because the most beautiful stories aren't copied. They're written one page at a time.
And so, another chapter found its place on the shelf.
The cherries were gathered, the laughter slowly drifted into memory, and the sun quietly closed another summer evening. Yet something remained behind. Not on the branches or in the basket, but within the photographs themselves. Proof that growing older doesn't mean leaving wonder behind. It simply means learning where to find it again.
If this is the first tale you've wandered into, I'm so glad you found your way here. And if you've traveled these pages before, thank you for turning another one with me.
After all...
Some games are never meant to end.
Until the next tale,
Trinity
